Copy of Environmental Commitment
At the heart of WoodLiving’s company ethos is our commitment to the environment. As we only produce handcrafted furniture from solid wood, we feel obliged to ensure that whenever possible we only work with suppliers who provide FSC or PEFC Certified material (see below). Furthermore our furniture is built to last and comes with a lifetime guarantee as standard, in terms of its structure, meaning that with a little love and care from our clients, our cabinets will be proudly passed down to future generations.
Typically we work with solid pine, a species of conifer with a much shorter growth and regeneration cycle than hardwoods, such as beech or oak. If you prefer to go with a hardwood kitchen or piece of furniture from us, don’t feel guilty though! Irrespective of the FSC/PEFC Certification of our hardwood suppliers, WoodLiving will ensure that 5% of the profits on our hardwood items will be donated to the Woodland Trust, ensuring that for every tree used to make your furniture, another two will be planted in its place.
Through a combination of the longevity of our products, together with our ongoing commitment to the preservation and growth of forests (both in the UK and abroad) and a constant goal to minimise our carbon footprint, WoodLiving are proud to consider themselves a green company and we encourage all our suppliers and customers to follow suit.
FSC's “tick tree” logo is used to indicate that products are certified under the FSC system. When you see the FSC logo on a label, you can buy forest products with confidence that you are helping to ensure our forests are alive for generations to come.
FSC® SA-COC-002226/FSC Mix
Products with a mix label support the development of responsible forest management worldwide. The wood comes from FSC certified well-managed forests and other controlled sources.
Controlled sources are controlled, in accordance with FSC standards, to exclude illegally harvested timber, forests where high conservation values are threatened, genetically modified organisms, violation of peoples civil and traditional rights and wood from forests harvested for the purpose of converting the land to plantations or other non-forest use.
PEFC provides an assurance mechanism to purchasers of wood and paper products that they are promoting the sustainable management of forests. Sustainably managed forests are those whose management implements performance standards based on internationally agreed environmental, social and economic requirements that form the cornerstones of sustainability. Although many forests are sustainably managed, the only way to provide credible proof of this is through independent checking.
Wood from a certified forest can be traced from harvested tree, through to finished product. This is called “Chain of Custody Certification”.
